Oh thanks! Wish I could try that, but they don't have gliding clubs here in Thailand. They only have paragliding here, which I hate.

I couldn't possibly comment on that!

3:50 - cable break? Practice?
YoungJim409 1 year ago
Possibly, although the launch looks too slow to me and might have been abandoned for that reason. The glider has to dive quite a long way to get approach speed.

What are dog clutches?
KvornanTheLafesta 2 years ago
Dog clutches are mechanical clutches to engage and disengage the winch drums. They consist of a circular metal plate with a series of pegs (or teeth) that engage in a second plates with holes drilled in it. Unlike a friction clutch in a vehicle they cannot be slipped; they are either in or out.

how long is your cable?
this video gives me an idea of how i shouldn't drive the winch, :9

A new cable is 1500 metres (4500 ft) long, but we rarely use the full length. We have replaced the Tost winches with a couple of Skylaunches since this video was recorded, which are much easier to operate.
