"OFFBEAT Guitarist" BETA version, a real guitar game freely available at http://JamOrigin.com.

This is a one-shot test recording of OFFBEAT Guitarist BETA 1.2, made with a $99 Squier Bullet Guitar and an older PodXT USB interface (all effects bypassed).

The guitar recognition is unbelievable, and you should be able to get similar results with most guitars and guitar interfaces. Some note flicker is caused by the engine re-positioning of notes.

In order to capture sound from Windows, this recording was made with the Windows Audio driver and 441 buffersize. The ASIO driver with a 256 buffersize performs even better.

Mind that this freely available version is a throttled version of the OFFBEAT engine. The full version is more robust to intonations, yield more stable notes and ultra-low latency with JamOrigin's proprietary prediction technology. The full version does auto-tabbing and real-time guitar-synth as well!

  • lol I was like WHY IS THE FIRST STRING MARKED 0 then it his me it is showing the fret number.

  • @bladerunner12 The algorithm assumes an open chord position, and changes when you hit the last high note, forcing the software to interpret it fingered higher up the neck. I think it would be very hard for audio recognition software to interpret an E3 played on the first string, compared to that same E3 on the 2nd string, vs 3rd string, etc.

  • @bladerunner12 I think this is the main reason that most of these guitar trainer softwares like little big star and guitar wizard have turned to vaporware.

  • Please help. I have M-Audio FastTrack as a dedicated guitar interface, ASIO, Windows 7 Ultimate, this game downloaded, and it won't recognize my guitar, no matter what channel I set Audio Setup to, and it says that the sample rate is not supported by one of the usb devices. I am frustrated beyond measure. Please help me by posting your settings here.

    Thanks.

  • I could hear Re: Your Brains at the end there.

  • Looks like it has a tendency to interpret notes played on one string as the same note played on another string for a split second. I always wondered how these kinds of games would work around that.

  • @Sappy128 coz it is xD

  • I love what I see; can't wait to try it out! :D
