US officials have been saying that Adm. Mullen accusations against Pakistan can be backed by credible evidence, but many have questioned this claim. Dan Markey of CFR, Michael O'Hanlon of Brookings, and Amb. James Dobbins of RAND, backing up a recent Washington Post article, say that Adm. Mullen might have overstated the case against Pakistan's ISI. This is in addition to White House Spokesperon Jay Carney saying he would not have used Mullen's words. In addition, some have also said Adm. Mullen's statements have further soured relations with Pakistan, and were not a good idea politically. However, many, like Sadaand Dhume of the American Enterprise Institute think that the US had run out of options with Pakistan, and this was the right thing to do.
