LED lamps are competitive simply because they cost less than kerosene or paraffin, says Mark Bent, an LED lamp distributor, at the Lighting Africa 2008 conference.
The global lighting industry met in Accra, Ghana on 6-8 May, to discuss off-grid lighting opportunities and remaining obstacles in Sub-Saharan Africa. The World Bank & IFC Lighting Africa program aims to provide clean, efficient and safe lighting to 250 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa who have no access to electricity.
