Here's a real rare bird. Made in Italy in the early 60's by the legendary Antonio Pioli and distributed in the U.S. by Noble. These guitars were quite different in design than anything that was done at the time. Basically a neck-through construction made from an hollowed aluminum "broom stick" billet with everything attached to it (Headstock, wooden fretboard, tailpiece and an oddly shaped concave plastic body), this was far from your typical Gibson or Fender guitars and still very different from what Veleno and Kramer made after. Although Wandre are not easy to date, this one is probably from '63 due to it's "fretted bridge" and Vibrato unit.

This guitar is set-up for slide playing with a high action and huge strings (.013-.058 with a wound G). That, combined with it's low output "Wandre" pickups makes for an interesting sound.

I'm not much of a slide player, but i thought that i'd just plug it straight through my old Fender Tweed Champ, and play a little ditty to show you this unusual guitar. Hope you'll enjoy it.

  • so what is its construction like? is it solid?

  • @CraigSpannier Well it's not a Travis Bean, but it's pretty well made for plastic and aluminum.

  • @robertgroove66 oh, didnt know it was plastic

  • @CraigSpannier Yup, but toneful one ;)

  • I thought his name was Pioli Wandre' ?

  • @MrRcheek He was born Antonio Pioli. Wandre was a nickname his father gave him which loosely means "Go in reverse". Oddly, the letter "W" doesn't exist in the Italian alphabet... Go figure!! Thanks for watching!! Rob
