Max came to our farm in July 09 when his previous owners, who love him dearly, felt he was unhappy with their move from the country to a village; a tough decision for them, indeed. Max filled a huge hole left by our previous afghan, Shadow, and joins our other two rescues, Willow and Ivy. Max has adjusted well to his new home, and is beginning to learn to come when off leash... but he is not there yet. When he is fully trained, he will be allowed the freedom of our 6 km of trails, along with our other dogs on our daily walk together. In the meantime, realizing his need to burn off steam, we fenced in an area for him that will do until he can be off leash on the trails. This video was taken in mid-October, on his first release in this area.

  • How's he doing? I never envisioned an Afghan that would reliable come when called when off leash. Is that possible? Watching Max run is a joy.

Max is doing GREAT! He is very bonded to our greyhound and sticks with her on our daily runs. Because he gets a long run every day, freedom isn't a novelty. Plus, I took the time needed to train him to come when called. He really shows no desire to run away. He really is a joy to watch running free. But our trails are essentially fenced, so it was a very secure place to train him. Thanks for asking! :o)

  • Great video. I prefer interesting coat color combinations over solids. I've been a small dog fan all my life, but am thinking about getting one for the first time, and it's neat to see their personality when they can do what they want. I would take mine jogging, and maybe do agility, even though I know agility courses are not their forte. Getting a perfect score in the alloted time would be great. I liked Shadow playing in the snow too. What is a fenced trail? Never heard of that anywhere.

Well. I am impressed. I will work harder at teaching my next one to come when called. I just thought it couldn't be done. Glad Max is doing good. He's lovely.

  • I love his face fuzzies!!!! He is so beautiful running around like an Afghan does. He is so precious......

  • He is so beautiful. He makes me cry because he reminds me of my Afs that have passed away. You are so fortunate to have him and for him to have you....

  • What a beautiful boy! I'm sure he now has a new wonderful home with you.

  • So glad you adopted, Max. You can see how happy he is running & just running more. What a sweetheart.
