Manila, Philippines -- Jose "Pepe" Rodriguez, director of Instuto Cervantes in Manila, explains to reporters why the Spanish cultural center honored Philippine national hero Jose Rizal on his 150th birth anniversary. Rodriguez also encourages Filipinos to study the Spanish language, pointing out that it being the second most spoken language in the United States, which has the largest number of Filipino expatriates.

  • @marumito Yeah you are quoting Jose Rizal a spanish speaker, a Filipino man who adored Spain. Lol. Learning Spanish does not mean you are not proud to be Filipino. Learning Spanish as Filipino is actually patriotic since it was the language of the 1st Philippine Republic. Do Your Self a Favor And Read Philippine History For Christ Sake!!!

  • @marumito No there was no such thing as Filipino before the Spanish. Before the Spanish we were the Tagalog, the Sugbuanos, Tboli, Kalinga, Agta, etc.We were not united. Also there was no Americans before the Europeans, there were only the Navajos, Haidas, Cherokees, etc. How is Spanish influence is Philippines flaw? when we practice it today, obviously it is accepted, because we made it our own...!!! Geez, do you think Pasko will halt this year because it was brought by Spaniards?

  • @beatbstrdz plus if you speak both english and spanish, you have better work opportunities and a higher pay. for me as a call center spanish-english bilingual rep im enjoying my language premium pay. next goal: french. it really is fun learning another language plus it opens to new doors of opportunities.
