Throwing coyote willow (Salix exigua) darts. This is likely the material of many of the White Dog Cave darts.

These darts weigh a bit under 3 ounces, and are ~5' in length.

In the video I say they are 2.2 ounces, but the scale I was using was a POS.

  • Sure! Try it! I use cattails as arrow shafts every year, and they hold up for a while, but nowhere near as long as phragmites or something like that. I like to use heavy wood for foreshafts, like oak or viburnum when I'm using light materials for mainshafts, things like sunflower, ragweed, ravenna grass etc. For willow and other wood darts it's not so critical, with willow darts you can even use willow foreshafts, since the shaft tapers to give forward balance. 37-40% FOC is optimal.

  • Show off. BTW I just finished some giant ragweed main shafts would cattail work for foreshafts?
