When traveling at low speeds, the Chevrolet Volt is very quiet. As seen on http://www.chevroletvoltage.com, learn how the Volt team is working with the National Federation of the Blind to build in sounds for the vehicle that alert pedestrians when the car is approaching.

  • H-DUB!!!!

  • why don't just put a wheel under the bonnet that make that friction noise of a hand generator, or the stereotype noise of a pin wheel.

  • maybe a 'blind-horn' that says "CAR! CAR! CAR!"

  • The lights flash because many people are "legally blind" which is the technical term for people with low vision capabilities - yet they may see peripherally or just less sharply than you or I.

Please be sensitive to others and not be a narcissistic a -hole, OK? Tuning the warning to your preference is assinine, OK? It has to be a universal tone that blind or legally blind people can identify very quickly as to not be hit by cars.

  • @CowboyDiplomacy I drive a Prius - and lots of times I "sneak" up on people - especially in parking garages when they're walking in the path of traffic - which people often do. SInce you're driving under electric drive - there's virtually no sound, and at slow speeds not even tire "whoosh" that blind people can hear. So - basically you need some kind of non-offensive warning to say " here I am - watch out ".

  • Making a constant V8 HEMI sound would get some attention from the pedestrians.

...although we may need a good big speaker system in your engine compartment this time...

There is actually a law in Japan to force car manufacturers to equip with some sort of system to creates noise for hybrid/electric vehicles.

In my opinion, we should all be able to download and choose our favorite sounds from the internet using a car navigation system, or DVD or iPod mp3s.

  • you don't need to have the horn beep or make some retarded sound, how about a futuristic fake engine sound. Maybe a jetsons sound?

  • @truckinjeff lol

  • If this feature is for the blind community then why do the headlights flash?

  • plug in electric cars or bust
