Great analogy!

Great Job Mr Weiner, Thank you.

Why are Americans defending a system that is proving to be destructive to our civilization?! UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE NOW, AMERICAN FRATERNITY FOREVER!!!
-
It's called, "Squawk Box"!

I love your analogy (and will have to steal it)!
I listen to a lot of Dem politicians who are always challenged by the conservatives on the costs to Medicare, but they always seem to fall far short in giving a reasonable response in defense of Medicare. Yours might really bring it home to the lesser thinking individuals on the right in helping them to realize just how necessary and life-saving the Medicare system is to so many Americans.

It still blows my mind that conservatives can't see that in the long and medium runs, a public option or even a single payer saves the government and everyone else quite a bit of money by implementing preventative care and removing the medicare prescription subsidies. raising taxes on the top tier income earners BACK TO REAGAN ERA LEVELS, and legalizing marijuana and taxing that will easily pay for this.

Of course Medicare has financial problems. To be eligible for Medicare, you must be:
A) 65 or older
B) (in some cases) under 65 and disabled
or
C) have End-Stage Renal Disease
That's like having an insurance company that insures ONLY the windward coast of Florida ONLY during the hurricane season. It would pay out more in claims than it could ever collect in premiums.
Bring in a large population of healthy, younger people to spread the risk, and everything changes.
