If you love Lacy, check out Lucky Thompson, another great soprano player, whose tone was his alone.

It's a shame that when most people hear Kenny G and other "smooth jazz" runts they immediately assume that this is the sound of soprano saxophone and then they think "soprano sux!!" Fortunately, guys like Steve Lacy showed that soprano could be played well. He had a great sound on the instrument. He's right too: soprano is a challenging instrument and most end up sounding either too shrill or too wimpy on the soprano. Lacy was really determined on soprano and it shows.
