Here is what a 244 at idle sounds like (first 30 or so seconds)
watch?v=ugTI-K7sz48
This guy in this video is obviously playing with the throttle for whatever reason.
-
Sounds to me like the engineer is jockeying the throttle. He only starts to led it idle at the end o the clip.
-
In that case, the whole engine would need to be rebuilt. But, would probably lose its classic alco sound.
-
I could listen to that all day... Gotta love those Alco's!
-
thats the way they sound

Either he's doing that on purpose, or the governor on that 539's really screwed up.

@DeserTBoB93535 It's a 244, but you are correct, the fuel governing system needs some attention. The idle fluctuation is almost comical.

@kjmerkel69 Er, yeah, how'd I think it was an RS-1?? Governor problems like this can also be caused bya really glopped up primary fuel filter, and I'm betting this one's got a nice, thick coat of algae on it.

@DeserTBoB93535 Oh, there are probably numerous faults. The rack tension springs are just some that got thrown on, and the rack itself is probably tight. We have a place to start, and as always, we're saying "maybe this year."
