I own a house and land. Plan on buying a 2 bed/1 bath manufactured home (new) and place it on the property. Can you believe the city wants $26,00.00 for permits and fees? The manufactured home costs $46,000.00. Its very nice. I plan on dumping my retirement into this investment. I feel money will become ever more worthless and know of good people who need a small place to rent. A roof over your head is more important than worthless money sitting in an account. Any advice out there?

It's a very small step from being successful to begging on the street.

We need to learn survival skills to stay alive no matter what. Should we find outself outdoors we all need to know what to do and when. Every one should know how to maintain core temp, find and insure water is safe, make shelter, and how to get a meal. We need to learn self sufficiency I don't know why we want to die as soon as we are not a part of the crowd. That is what is wrong it isn't that we are entirely disadvantaged we are sidetracked when we are HL we just need to prioratize what to do.

After being HL as a youth I made it my goal to own my property as soon as possible I know we are all alone don't fool yourself into thinking you have to put yourself in hock to look like you are something you are not. Wifes family is upset we will not sell the $32K land trailer we are about to own outright. They think we should get a loan 4 A houuse that is more befitting. I strongly disagree we need to own our home should we get another we will pay cash for the next one.F**K the Jone's

Ha ha ..... what a load of ignorant, arrogant, small minded comments on here .... "homeless due to their own fault and wrongdoing"? You absolute idiot. I hope you never fall on hard times and have no home, therefore no bank, therefore no ability to get a job, therefore no way of paying rent.

As Americans we should be ashamed of ourselves that ANY of our citizens sleep outdoors or goes without basic food. It is Shameful indeed...

That was perhaps true in the past. However, in the last year or so, I've seen laid-off engineers, accountants, and college grads in general living in their cars.

If you were poor in 1959, you had no excuse. You faced no competition for jobs and careers in manufacturing were plentiful and didn't require so much as a HS diploma. In 2009, even college grads are hurting.

America is f*cked.
