NOTE: A much more complete version of my AES workshop is now available here:

Dither is often used to reduce distortion when converting audio files from 24 to 16 bits. But the amount of distortion that's reduced is miniscule, and in practice the improvement from using dither is rarely audible.

  • I couldn't get permission from the AES to upload the full video, so I plan to "recreate" much of the workshop from my PowerPoint slides and SONAR projects. I hope to have that done by the end of this year. It's a lot of material!

  • Why should you have to get ask AES to upload the full video?

  • Good question. :->)

    Regardless, what I recreate and post here will have even more info than what we had time for at the show.

  • @EthanWiner

    Any word on if this is still happening?

  • @Keyguya Yes, I made an hour-long video last year. Click my name to get to my YouTube page, and look for Audio Myths Workshop. The video has been so well received it got me a book deal! Watch for it in bookstores in about six months.
