Republicans were only liberal socially before the 60's, but Republicans were and always will be more capitalist, and Democrats were and always will be more socialist. Face it. That's all that matters in politics, anyway.

@ChaseKittens Being as I said nothing about Reagan, forgive me if I dont reply to that first bit. not sure where it came from. What I was saying is that a party's social standing is based on its interpretation of the constitution. So yes, republicans were more socially liberal but only because they had a conservative view of the constitution. The social change in viewpoint isn't really a change in view-point/stance on the laws of the country.
