@thiasotis When direct democracy was set up in Switzerland, their population was made of mercenaries, peasants, brigants, clergy and other "non prepared" people. The elite were the peasants, that fought anyone, or at least tried to, that messed up their liberty, the Habsburgs have a long story to tell on how to treat the swiss, just don't mess with them. Google "direct democracy switzerland" and inform yourself if you want to promote this form of government in your community and/or nation :)

But be realistic..Nowdays direct Democracy cant be aplied cause there are many obstacles..First of all is the the necesairy Improvement of the Educational system in the modern countries..THe Education system must have a great purpose which will be to create people as Active And Political thinking human beings..Something that education sucks in our days in every country even if the most advanced country.Thats the most dificult part.

Direct Democracy is the Futute..Is a peaceful Revolution that must take place and can be started from Hellas(Greece) once again as Athenian Democracy started from here and was a Direct Democracy.Nowadays the internet and technology is the key that allow people to interact, vote and discusss the political issues..

Direct Democracy is dead? Why don't you take a look at Switzerland.

No.

direct democracy is dead, valid conflict democracy is the future, i.e miliband vs goldsmith a one on one slug fest wearing inflatable male deer suits. Stagflation need not be a scary word.
Representative democracy is obsolete.
Government of the people, by the people and for the people.
Direct Democracy

Absolutely agree with Zac. He's a decent bloke who genuinely understands the need to involve ordinary people in decision making.
