This guy's a gutbuster. "Go play with some mercury, boys and girls!" Hilarious -- another unconscious PBS comic genius. I remember watching Bob Ross, the painter, while having, um, refreshments with some friends, and laughing harder than I did at most any professional comedian. And there was a cable show called "Sew What's New" featuring a guy who taught sewing in ROFL fashion. TV needs characters like these again.

as others have stated.... 2.31 feet of water column is equal to 1 psi, so at 34 feet the head pressure equals the outside air pressure (standard day, sea level) But above 34 feet the water column head pressure then exceeds the outside air pressure and flow occurs until they equalize.

Although he invites us to do this experiment and wishes us good fortune, mercury is horribly dangerous stuff. You will not end up like Dr. Miller, you will end up like Ozzy Osbourn.
U-tube lol :D
