A hermetically sealed glass and aluminum encasement built by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is protecting the first map to label the lands of the New World as "America." The 40-square-foot, state-of-the-art display case at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., is the home for the 1507 Waldseemueller map, often called "America's birth certificate. More info:
