Singer Elton John and partner David Furnish became dads on Christmas Day. It is a first baby for John, 62, and Furnish, 48, who have been together for two decades.

The baby was born to a surrogate mother in California. The birth followed the couple's attempt to adopt an HIV-positive baby from the Ukraine, which was rejected last year.

@ Chav ...my sister has a duaghter with an intellectual disablity and she attended a regular mainstream school and make no mistake about it , teenagers are extemely cruel. I remember myself and others copping shit during my high school years and i have no doubt that english kids would be the same as Aussie kids....stop lying you bastard.

I've taught in a South London school for christ's sake, where you will have white kids, Asian kids, Oriental kids, and 50% black kids in a class, and I taught two classes between 14 and 17. They were hard, and tough, and some of them were big and angry and ready to punch out a teacher (they never did) but they weren't homophobic, and they weren't racist.

It was a big eye opener for me. I thought it would be like you neonazis said, but no.

I wish them all well , but in general i dont favour same sex adoption , the main reason being that i just think the children will have such a hard time during thier teen years at the hands of other teens...kids can be so cruel.

@positiveblackman1 his age is the only legit reason to have concerns. (in my opinion) However I would not support the government telling people when they can have a child either- many "straight" men have had babies well into there 70's, and yet no one seems outraged by that?
