Authorities are offering a $10,000 reward to reenergize a stalled investigation in a string of robberies in Cedar Falls in November and December.
The suspect, believed to be a 20-something-year-old white male of medium built, got away with an undisclosed amount of money after robbing three Cedar Falls banks and two credit union branches.
Investigators, including local FBI agents, say the brazen robber struck in broad daylight, entered through the front door disguised with a hood and glasses, presented a note to a cashier and then bolted out with the money.
Another robbery, committed by a different suspect, happened on Feb. 2, when a black male, whose face can clearly be seen in security photos, hit the U.S. Bank branch at Cedar Heights Drive.
This is the second robbery on Cedar Heights Drive. The first suspect struck an Iowa Community Credit Union branch at 3301 Cedar Heights Drive on Nov. 29.
Police say while the methods bear similarities, last years and Februarys robberies appear unrelated.
After the 23-minute press conference at the City Halls Council Chambers, authorities remained as tight-lipped as they have always been about the amount of money, the content of the note or any other details they may have gleaned from witnesses at the scene or callers claiming they have spotted the suspect.
The $10,000 reward for the first suspect is pooled together by the affected financial institutions and the FBI.
U.S. Bank, which was struck by the second robber, is also offering a financial reward up to $10,000, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
