Shinzen talks about how he likes to classify basic sensory experience. He talks about the two reasons why the Basic States Sensory System is designed as it is 1) practical for mindfulness meditators, and 2) based on contrasting elements for scientists working with FMRI technology. Shinzen talks about the individual sensory states and the contrasts inherent in the system; more subjective and more objective with regard to the auditory, visual and somatic components, reactive and proactive, ordinary and restful states. Filmed in Nov. 2009 at Mt. Carmel Spiritual Centre in Niagara Falls.
