This was wonderfully performed. I prefer a high mezzo (with good high top notes) like Shirley or Grace who had great lower notes but also high notes. Amneris can steal the show in this scene if sung well; it's a passionate emotional scene in which Amneris, who has previously come off as jealous, cruel and proud, shows her vulnerability, crying for the fate of her Radames, cursing the Council and Priests who sentence him to death by being buried alive.

You have it IN COLOR! IN COLOR! HALLELUJAH! Wonderful Verrett, IMHO the greatest singing actress / acting singer since Callas. But then again, Callas didn't sing Amneris :+) A flick of her brows says a thousand words.
