This video lost MOST of its clarity in the upload to YouTube! :(
I posted it anyway, because my AUSTRALIAN friends do not have any Blue Jays -- maybe Jays don't like all those frisky Cockatoos! :)
This young BLUE JAY was hanging around the house looking for a drink of water which he found right in front of my feet in a puddle that had formed from the dripping garden hose in my hand. Obviously, he hadn't learned to be afraid of humans yet!
I started watching him and smiled at his still awkward flying and perching skills. It was very windy and he was hanging on to that little branch in the Maple Tree for dear life calling out to mom and dad who weren't far away. (You can really hear him peeping towards the end if you turn your volume up!)
There was also a vigilant ROBIN close by who chased both the adults and the youngster away a number of times -- must have been protecting its own young. Didn't know that a Robin would take on a Blue Jay and prevail! Nature is amazing!

COMMENT: This was the first time I used my Canon Digital Camera to take a video and I was almost as wobbly holding the camera as the young bird was on his branch...duh...

I feel like I was right there in the trees with the blue jay. Since we moved to the prairie we haven't seen one and I miss my little guys. Thanks for sharing.

So cute! One of my parrots was in a high tree the other day and he looked about the same, holding on for dear life as the wind blew. I finally got him to come down and you should have seen him dig into his supper that night. Of my four, he's the only one who is allowed to free-fly because he actually comes back! Other "people" who shall remain nameless (....BOB) have to get wing clips for the summer.

what a sweet lovely bird, we do not have them in Australia, I guess colour wise, the closest we have are blue wrens. How gorgeous it was, it was trying so hard to stay balanced. love and light - Susan xxxx
