McQueen is one of the youngest designers to achieve the title "British Designer of the Year", which he won three times between 1996 and 2003. And has been named International Designer of the Year at the Council of Fashion Designer Awards.

McQueen believes that world fashion begins in London. He says, London has a big street culture. And there is general enthusiasm for fashion from the street to the top end of the market.
