We finally did it! Our fourth attempt at Open and Lance hold his stays (mostly) and qualifies!!! It wasn't our best performance, Lance was more distracted then normal, but I"ll take it! I lost us some points for changing my hand position right after the judge said "forward" and for apparently moving my head when sending Lance over the high jump, but we qualify with a 189.5/200. Way to go Lance!

  • awesome job! we also are competing in Open A and have two legs so far. I do the tricks too sometimes to keep her energy up! And I know all about the hardship of out of sight stays, you did great! Are you going to continue on to utility?

  • thank you. yes we will eventually be going to utility. but right now Lance is no where near ready as most of the exercises are still in the early training phases.

  • 5* and a fav! Lance did AMAZING!!!! I love how you rewarded him with tricks between the obedience cues:)! Lance deserved a perfect score. Why did he get 0pts for a down stay?

  • the pts listed were points lost. so lance didn't lose any pts on the long down stay. Most of the time on the stays you either automatically NQ for a change of position, or don't lose any pts. But on the sit stay Lance pivoted a bit which cost us 3pts.

  • oh and using Lance's fav tricks usually helps him keep his focus. but this trial Lance was more distracted then usual and it didn't seem to keep his attention as much. oh well :)

  • This is amazing! :)

  • Very nice job. I think he did a better job than you are giving him credit for. SPDTC is a tough place to show, especially if you don't train there. For Lance to be that focused with everything so visible through the ring barriers is outstanding. He was working very, very hard to maintain his focus on you!! Ask Adam to get both of you in the frame at the same time if at all possible - you will learn more from the video that way.

It gets easier! Keep having fun.

  • Nice job! I love the tricks.

  • Wahoo!! Congrats!! So proud of you both. :-) One down, 2 to go.

  • Way to go stubby legs! Clever boy!

  • Well done Lance! He did great!! :)
