hmm... that raving about renown.. I don't know but it's not been my experience.. Renown is way to hard soundwise, especially the floor tom and BD... and can be a pain to get to sound well in the studio.
but well.. just my personal opinion..

he'll make any kit sound good.

Just my opinion and personal experience with Renown maples compared to Sonor.

I don't know if I agree with what he's saying about the Renown Maples. I play Renown's for about 3 years. I ended up Buying Sonor Delite drums because The sound of the drums were never there for me and they went out of tune constantly. I play a USA Maple when I had that kit and remember the USA Maples sounding way nicer and just fealt nicer... But now that I'm playing Sonor I really realize Die cast hoops are not what I'm looking for.. IMO they choke the drums natural ability to reverberate.

Gretsch drums are killer! I saw this signature snare today at a drum shop in Albuquerque, NM and it's a beauty!
I just bought the Renown 57 set last friday! I've been more than happy with my other Yamaha set...but this Gretsch set is just the best playing and feeling set I've EVER played!
The quality on these drums are amazing and I feel lucky to be part of the amazing Gretsch History!
Suck it DW.
