Well they're wrong, it uses the same technology as an optical mouse.

A review I read explained that it is a motion sensor and compared it to the Wii remotes.

Looks really cool. I hope they bring it to the UK but they probably won't (NoE probably think we'll be turned off by it's unique and imaginative look... :/ ).
