Actually, it does work in rainy climates. It just requires a waterproof foundation (ie. concrete or lime) and a decent roof. The rest of the house can be mud.

The Cob Cottage Company is based in Oregon. They started this recent revival of natural building in America. There are also 40,000 earthen homes in Devon, England. You know, where it rains a lot. Please do a little research before you denounce something as wonderful as natural building.

While your heart is in the right place, you're very irresponsible when you hearald an 8 story adobe blding. Unreinforced adobe structures are the reason 316k Haitians died in a 7.0 earthquake. I live in Baja California, MX, where there is a lot of poverty, but people have reinforced homes. We had an earthquake of the same seismic proportion with 2 fatalities. Responsible building protects the environment but protects humanity first. You want to put your kids up on the 8th floor? Not me. Wise up

What a wonderful way you present what can be done with futuristic building. It is so ridiculous the accepted development of this day. Practical living, made simple, by using natural resources to accomodate the need to develop. I wish the world would wake up more quickly.

What do they do with the lime? Is that a special mix coating the put on parts of it? Is it waterproof or is there some other advantave? thanks.

No special mix, just straight-up lime, and yes, it is waterproof, but still permeable to water vapour, so it breathes.
