Here is the last time Curly appeared with The 3 Stooges. He plays a passenger on a train. Curly had a stroke on 06 May 1946. This was filmed after Curly's stroke and is from the short "Hold That Lion" (1947) and is also the only clip with 4 Stooges - Curly, Larry, Moe and Shemp.
From Wikipedia:
Donning a full head of hair, Curly made a brief cameo appearance (doing his barking-dog routine) in the third film after brother Shemp returned to the trio, Hold That Lion!. It was the only film that featured Larry Fine and all three Howard brothers, Moe, Shemp and Curly, simultaneously; director Jules White later said he spontaneously staged the bit during Curly's impromptu visit to the soundstage:

" It was a spur of the moment idea. Curly was visiting the set; this was sometime after his stroke. Apparently he came in on his own, since I didn't see a nurse with him. He was sitting around, reading a newspaper. As I walked in, the newspaper, which he had in front of his face, came down and he waved hello to me. I thought it would be funny, to have him do a bit in the picture and he was happy to do it."

  • Thanks LESSOLITAIRE - I appreciate that!

    Happy Nyuk Year, Knucklehead!

  • This wasn't curly's last scene he was in some deleted part of the 3 stooges after he handed his part to shemp.

  • @DanNZ4 "Deleted" is the key word in your remark, lol.

  • In a way, this video is sad. Curly died not too long after this.

  • how would love watching this guys :) cause the whole family would sit down and watch em wen i was younger we would never get tired of watching there shows

  • This clip baffled the hell out of me as a kid. Not only was there no internet, there were no Stooges-related books published yet to find out much about them and their history. My brother and I thought this thinner, hairier Curley was perhaps his son! Moe arranged for this cameo appearance in an effort to bolster Curley's morale...

  • hmm, I thought this was before Curly got into the business?

  • @pratikh He had more than one. So did Larry. By the way, the "actor" that played Curly WAS Curly *real name....well, actually Jerome but Curly was his real nickname*. Same with Moe and Larry. Those are their names. There were no "actors" other than themselves!

  • @mondo78 Yes.................If you will notice my second comment below, I corrected myself. I read the story about his violin vaudville act with the girls and all.

But thanks anyways! I have loved the three "knuckle-heads" all of my life! (and I've been around since the 50s!)

  • @DanNZ4 Reportedly deleted scene in MALICE IN THE PALACE. See Stooges Journal #6 for a great script element with Curly's (presumptive) dialogue. What a shame if it was deleted & is lost.

  • @technocrash09 Larry was not a cousin. He was doing his own act in Chicago when Ted Healy and Moe saw him and asked him to join.

  • Luv Curly & all of the Stooges !

  • Their brand of humor was wonderful- We will never see the likes of these guys, W C Fields, The Marx Bros. ...etc

  • I've read about the SECOND Curly cameo - deleted from MALICE IN THE PALACE. Any word on that one! I'd pay some big bux for a DVD on that.
