9-23-2011 - Day 6 - Santa Cruz Flats Race 2011 - Director's Cut!

My apologies for the limited life of my original soundtrack. I uploaded the video w/ a slightly edited version of Echoes from Pink Floyd's Meddle LP. EMI initially blocked it and I filed a copyright dispute which immediately freed up the video until all copyright holders had a chance to review my dispute. The video played over 1000 times before EMI finally nixed it once and for all. I spent some time going through YouTube's copyright-free audio swap library looking for a suitable replacement that was 17 minutes or longer. There's a reason most of this music is copyright-free. The best 17-minute swap music I could find without making a career out it was the following piece:

Symphony n° 9 in D Minor, opus 125 ("An Die Freude") by: Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, from: Beethoven: Symphonies 1-9, length: 17:22

Feel free to mute the volume on the video and play whatever you like in the background. I have some good music that does not get blocked on YouTube and may try to do another soundtrack version and upload it if I get the chance.

Cheers, Jonathan

  • What's not to like, excellent flying and the "Ode to Joy"

  • @Swimswithtrout I have no complaints. Besides, I can watch the full res Pink Floyd version off my hard drive. ;-)

  • I liked the original music, Echoes is one of my favorite songs. There are many other videos on YouTube that use it, I wonder how they got around the copyright.

    Great video!

  • @smorrismlbco I love the video w/ Echoes. I can burn you a full-res copy on data DVD and send it to you if you like. It's hard to tell why some videos get blocked and others don't. Changing the audio sampling rate may help evade detection. My software lacks that feature.

  • @Lawrence7of9 The turbulence in the gaggles was pretty bad due to all the wakes in addition to the fact the cores kept splitting and bubbling off.

  • @AleRiera I agree, you look a menace in gaggles. Great video though. Are you twisting as bad as it looks or is it the camera? By reaction of the wing you seem to twist alot and wobble around, can't help your handling or gaggle reactions. Perhaps camera makes it look worse. Epic views though :-)

  • @AleRiera AleRiera,. There were worse menaces than me and the thermals kept spitting cores which resulted in overlapping gaggles and pilots flying against each other. There was plenty of commotion and I could have used another camera I could aim and record all the beauty and mayhem. Luckily all the pilots were skilled and confident. 'Orderly' flying would have resulted in a lot shorter flights. Conditions were pretty difficult and this was a race, not a ballroom dance. ;-)

  • Excellent video!!

I like the point of view and your editing.

But I have to admit you are a menace to the gaggle :-(

Try to pick a glider and stick to it flying tip to tip.

And please make your circles in thermals more or less equal to the other pilots... don´t go in front of any glider unless you are very sure you are going to go up faster than he (she)..

Maybe it was the other pilots...

    Excellent music, by the way!!!

  • @windmedic That was fun, huh?! :-D

  • @flanflystrx Thanks bro. We'll be thermalling up again soon!
