At 4:17 AM on Sunday, November 7, 2010, the Lynbrook Fire Department, under the command of Chief Raymond Burke, was dispatched by FIRECOM to a reported bus fire behind the Davison Avenue School in Lynbrook.  The first arriving Lynbrook police and firefighters found more than one buse fully involved in fire.  Upon the Chief's arrival a general alarm was broadcast because the buses were parked next to a portable classroom.  Engine Company 421 was first on the scene, followed by Tally-Ho 423, and Truck Company's 428.  Engine Company took their first line to the front of the buses to cool the exposure and begin the attack of the intense fire consuming the buses.  Two of the buses were totally engulfed while the third bus was also burning.  A second and a third hose line was taken from Engine 421 by members of that company and Tally-Ho.  The other fire companies and the Medical Company stood-by.  These new buses were purchased by the Malverne School District this past September to take district children to Chaminade and Kellenberg High Schools.  Based on the amount of fire engulfing the buses the fire was considered suspicious and the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office was called to conduct an investigation.  Besides the loss of the three buses there was additional damage to the portable classroom as the heat broke the classroom windows.  Lynbrook firefighters were at the scene for about 90 minutes.
