More footage from Anthony Giachino of the historic silver mining town of Cobalt, Ontario. In 1903, Cobalt was just a sign on a railway track in the isolated bush of Northern Ontario. Two years later, the New York Times was boasting that this mining boom camp boasted all the "sensations of the most modern city on the continent."
Over 100 operating mines fueled a massive investment boom in Canadian mining stocks. The community struggle with dangerous working conditions, overcrowded shanty towns and poor infrastructure.
Long after the silver boom ended, the town continued.

How amazing to see so many people in Cobalt. I live in Australia now but, man, that made me homesick. Great footage. Thanks for the nostalgia!

Oh my gosh, seeing the steamtrains, horse & buggy and people ski down prospect avenue. How awesome is that. I'm grateful Mr. Giachino filmed it and thanks for sharing it Chuck. - Tim Culhane.
