  • @MKIE2513 , i want to go to TSU , is is a good school ?

  • I want to go to Spelman , but I didn't even bother applying because of two things:

    1. I probably wouldn't be "smart" enough

    2. It is soo expensive!

I go to a "white" ( sometimes it feels like a hbcu though) and it costs me less than $9,000/semester.

I don't come from a wealthy family and the idea of taking out a lot of loans to pay for education doesn't sound appealing.

  • Biggest problem with "Some" HBCU's is that their is always this one demensional view of the real world! when we graduate we are not going to be in a company full of Black People. and no one is going to have affirmative action over other people simply because you went to an HBCU. PWI"s are diverse and embrace different cultures reguardless of orgins. at an HBCU its just all about coddling and telling people that the world evolves around Black people! it does not embrace other cultures.

  • going into my senior year in high school i knew that there was only one choice for me, that choice was an HBCU. I applied to CAU, NCAT, UAPB, Miles College, Tougaloo College, Grambling State and many more. I got accepted into most of them, But the schools that i got accepted into didn't give me enough money to finance my education, so i applied to a PWI (Iowa State University) and got a full ride there, the only problem is I hate it here. I know an HBCU would have been perfict for me.

  • I agree 300% that HBCU's are still & will forever be relevent. I attend an HBCU and I absolutely love it. It makes me cring when I hear people try to downplay HBCU's, especially other blacks. In fact I read an article the other day explaining how black grads of HBCU's typically earn more than blacks coming from PWI's.

  • never attended an HBCU but I believe that I would appreciate my race and not have to feel "in competition" with others or feel that I represent everyone in my race if I'm the only black student in the class...

  • I attended and graduated a PWI and I have had a one or two teachers who he would consider "a joke"...I really think that he has been brainwashed to believe that white is better...You're right that their are two different experiences...I believe that HBCU are still relevant because they are apart of history. S/N: Even though PWI cater to the majority there are some teachers that WILL help you and I do think attending a PWI will help the students be ready to interact with other races...I have

  • Also in my major from this PWI i don't know anyone that is working in that major and but at famu I know ppl who have jobs in that field and also their always finding jobs and posting interns. There are much better opportunities at a Hbcu.

  • I know that I am super late but I go to a PWI but went to a all black high school. I absolutely hate my school now and will transferring to famu. PWI don't offer anything for my minorities the teacher aren't supportive at all and the whites all ways look down on you no matter how much you show them you know. Even the blacks think there better and talk about other blacks. All love my black ppl and can't wait to go to a hbcu and also I hear there's nothin like it.

  • @MIKE2513 Only in America would people talk about dissolving colleges. I say keep HBCUs open. There is a history. However, there must be accountability on behalf of HBCUs.
