LMS Black 5 45231 ( The Sherwood Forester ) hauled the last Fellsman railtour of 2011 operated by Statesman rail from Lancaster to Carlisle via the Settle and Carlisle line and returned later in the afternoon via the same route back to Lancaster. The 5 is first seen cresting the top of Ripley bank at Lancaster on her way to Preston in windy conditions( sorry about the wind noise as the other camera had the better shot but I forgot to plug in the external mic that was inside the wind blimp ) . 45231 is then seen at Ramsgarve and Wilpshire station and then near Gisburn before the water stop at Hellifield . The 5 is next seen rounding the corner at Horton in Ribblesdale and then climbing towards Selside making a lovely sound. The return sees 45231 at a very windy Langwathby and then at Ormside after the water stop at Appleby. Thanks to all involved with this superb summer tour and the hard working crews and staff.

  • Great film, a fine testimony to the memory of the black five in its undaunted , tackle-all heyday.

  • @SuperStanley7 . Thank you , the 5 is a true workhorse and a joy to film . Steve

  • Excellent video Steve from well chosen locations. I'm intrigued as to how you set the second camera recording when it's so far away? Beautifully crisp light at Horton and Langwathby, and a lovely sound from the 5. It's been another great season for the Fellsman - roll on 2012, when we might see Galatea? Cheers, David.

  • @Linesider1 . Thanks David , I have been waiting for someone to ask me about the second camera and how did I set it recording . I put a plastic bag over the camera and set it recording and then walked across and set up the other camera and luck would have it that the rain that did appear for a few seconds stopped and did not get on the lens and I kept a good eye on the cameras position for any body who may try and walk off with the camera . Regards Steve

  • Some lovely lighting. Nice setting at Langwathby, with those three bridges. Although that one does seem to always have a bit of a leak from the cylinders.

  • @AndreiTupolev . Thanks Andrei , you get a good long view at Langwathby and the sun was a nice bonus. Steve
