Changes in farming practices and land use, over the years, has seen a reduction in wild-flower meadows and an increase in early harvesting for silage. The result of this has been a reduction of seed-bearing plants in late summer and autumn and a degradation of those meadows. As a result there has been a reduction in available food supplies for insects and birds. The Calderdale Seeds Project aims to redress the balance to help those species of plants, insects and birds that are in serious decline in our countryside.
