Nigel Inkster, Director of Transnational Threats and Political Risk at the IISS, tells Sky's Adam Boulton that although al-Awlaki was an important figure in the propagation of Al-Qaeda's message on the internet, he was part of a wider movement with very capable leaders. He said that Al-Awlaki aided Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninula in its strategy to destabilise the region with a continuous series of minor attacks to cause 'death by a thousand cuts'. He warned that the instability in Yemen is on the verge of fracturing into a number of conflicting groups and that Al Qaeda in the region is far more cohesive, coherent and salient than elsewhere.
