Solar Ballerinas - Radiant Jasmin & Shanti Devi playing radio waves, samples & ambient sounds while dancing with the electroacoustic solar powered tutus.

They were invented & made by Benoit Maubrey, he is seen here videotaping the performance as well.

We were in Brooklyn, NY outside of the Micro Museum on Smith St.

40° 73°

A juried exhibition and presentation of three site-specific works in Brooklyn, NY (40°N, 73°W) that engage the public in experiencing global ecology on a local level. This was one of the selected projects. Benoît Maubrey -- One Week in the Life of a Solar Ballerina. 'Solar Ballerinas' was a sound installation performed by dancers whose tutus — augmented with light sensors, miniature radio receiver, contact mics, and amplifiers—transform the body in its environs into a responsive instrument that steals and mixes ambient sound.
