The volume in the beginning is a little bit subtle. Hang in there it gets better.
Somewhere, somehow, sometimes...dreams really really do come true.

  • Gorgeous. Don Potter has such a gorgeous voice. What a gem...thanks so much for posting. I have this on vinyl and cherish it.

  • @streyper You're welcome and thanks for adding these tunes to your favorites list. The "Over The Rainbow" album is one of those mystical "what music would you want if you were stranded on a desert island" albums to me.

  • ricroc1948, I still have this album ( Don Potter "Over theRainbow" ). Unfortunatly since I have nothing to play it on..., Can you post Unchain My Heart? Don's version of OTR was the first I ever heard other than the movie. I like to think Don's rendition initiated others including Bolton to record this. At the time it probably "wasn't hip music" but Don did it amazingly well. Almost 40 years ago, it's hard to believe! Were you born in 1948? If yes, I suspect you were a "Showstoppers" fan.

  • @BobSTK

Sure Bob I can put together a video for Unchain My Heart. Or if you can find a way to get me your email I can send you the MP3.

Yea born in 1948 Fan of the Showstoppers, Brass Buttons, Jam Factory, Otis and the All Night Workers, The Group....So many GREAT bands back in the late 60's

    Those were the days!

  • This is what makes YouTube worthwhile. Like so many others have posted here, I think Don's version of this tune was the first I heard outside of the Wizard of Oz movie. Even with so many others having done this tune in the intervening years, Don's is still one of the best, original, and unique versions and holds up as well today as it did 40 years ago. Three cheers for Don, Bat, and Rochester!

  • I first heard Bat and Don at Hiley Morris's Alley in Rochester in the late 60's and have every album I can put my hands on. Saw them tons of time in concerts in the park, at the Eastman Theater with Chuck Mangione. This guy, singing this song, can bring tears to my eyes. By the way - anyone in Rochester if you miss Don's voice you can always hear it at the end of the Source jewelry store commercial.

  • best version of this song I have ever heard. He does it up great.

  • Wow, I used to listen to Bat and Don, hung with them a tiny bit , at road managers house, in Rochester NY . Asked him once how to be a singer, he said , just sing every day , all the time, I still do and have.......... Don also sang the best ever version of Georgia On my Mind. Taught me the cords......... still play , but only he could sing it.........

  • Thanks for posting this...I've been a fan of both Dan and Bat McGrath since they played the coffee houses of Buffalo in the late 60's...indeed...those were the bygone days of my youth!

  • I have 3 of his vinyl LPs....from the 70s & 80s...cherished!

  • never dreamed I'd hear DP here, but sooooooo happy to hear his OVER THE RAINBOW. It's one of my all time favs, along with Eva Cassidy's. Too bad they didnt get to do any music together.

  • Is Don not awesome?! Thank you ...
