This can be seen as a demonstration of what can be achieved with the Blender Game Engine in real time with limited modeling skills and a couple of shaders and scripts - most noteably SSAO - from the Blender Artist Forums.
Though this is running with 60 fps it's going down to around 30 with a tendency to drop below that when importing the scene into one of the more sophisticated shooter-templates from the BA-forum.
It's running on a Phenom II X4 955 with a GTX 275. An actual game built around this scene would thus require a bit more of computing power.
I hope you enjoy the view nonetheless.

Any feedback can be posted here or at the Blender Artists Forum http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=184511

  • How exactly did you do those outdoor shadows?

  • @omgcheez

I used two simple spotlights. The scene being a valley covers up that fact a bit by making it look like theres only small parts where the sunlight can get through to the ground. So I was basically trying to make a virtue out of necessity. Unfortunately that doesn't work with any kind of scene. Wish we finally had parallel sunlight shadows.

  • @KillBeKilledCOD He just created a camera. Added keyboard sensors.. mouselook.. motion..done! (Propably)

  • @highdownhybrid

Actually I didn't really create anything apart from the assets. To everyone interested: There's a bunch of mouselook scripts on blenderartists. I recommend you go there first and just have a look at the Game Engine Resources corner.

I love your scenery man! It seriously looks like Skyrim, imagine this was in 2010!

(about the outdoor shadows)....And the shadows created by the spotlight are all baked? Man, I can't imagine UV unwrapping and texturing all that, oh my god! XD

By the way, do you use blender for texturing/normalmapping/baking or other programs?

  • looks like skyrim :P

  • Awesome

  • @ethansk8ter

True. When I wrote that comment Sandbox 3 SDK hadn't released. Great tool to play around with. As is the case with the UDK.

  • @SachielMF Or, you can download the cryengine 3 sdk for free and not need to get any of their games.

  • ALAN WAKE! Looks awesome! :D
