@kng863 if you understood programming, and variable types, and their cost in memory, you'd understand why there's a stopper. just like the "donkey kong" kill screen at stage 255, and why "kagero deception"(ps1 game) has a counter stop at 65535 points per stage. and if you're curious about variable limits, look for records in shumps, specially giga wing.
they are not bad programmers, they had to work around the hardware limits.

Like I said, not handling 99+ hits is a bug. The game designers didn't build a robust enough game! They didn't have good enough testers to push it to 99+. Bad programmers. HEHE

no the game designers never expected the combos to go past 99 hits. The combo meter not rising isn't a result of a game bug.
