This is another original composition (J.M Validus is a latinisation of my name), which I wrote just after Christmas last year. It is a choral piece which was written for my school's choir, and as such is perhaps somewhat simplistic.
It was performed during Catholic Schools Week at the Diocesan Mass, held at the Cathedral Basilica, by the school choir under my direction.
It is a setting of the hymn Ave Verum Corpus, and is structured into verses. The first verse is a soprano solo, which leads into the introduction of the choir at the second. There is a walking bass part which more or less repeats itself through the entire piece, and gives a sense of motion. The melody is essentially in two parts, and these repeat throughout the piece, as well. It has very little episodic about it, except for the climax at "unda fluxit et sanguine", in which I indulged in a little text painting.
At the last verse, the choir drops out, and the piece ends with a high, hopefully haunting soprano solo, just as it began.
Not much to it beyond that.
I forgot to record it when it was first performed, but it is to be performed again next month, and I will endeavor to record it live for your enjoyment at that occasion. Until then, this synthesised version will have to do.
EDIT: It was in fact performed, and I have the recording...on casette tape. I'll figure out how to put it up one of these days. Maybe.
Enjoy!
Your composition? Wow great really. Simplistic you say, maybe It's this reason. Thank you for this moment.
