Seems to me there's one more possibility for the ending clip at Wrigley: In 1931 and 1932 the Cardinals played all their home games at Wrigley. Seems like this has been completely forgotten or overlooked in most historical accounts but newspaper reports from the time confirm it. Because all the other clips are the Cardinals, it seems more likely to me that the last one is also the Cardinals playing at home at Wrigley in 31'.

That is a very interesting thought, and might very well be true. The reel of film from which this was transferred was labeled "1929 Sports" and had no other labels. It contained the 1929 Cubs-Athletics World Series footage, along with these football scenes. However, various people have correctly pointed out that some of the footage in the 1929 baseball clip is actually from 1930. Therefore, this football footage might also contain scenes from other than 1929. Thanks!

Wow!! This would have been fun to see live!

The film quality is still good for 1929! Or had this been transferred to new film/video over the years?

This is a transfer from the original 16mm film that has been sitting in an attic all these years. The YouTube version is fuzzy, but the digital transfer is quite sharp.

The shotgun formation was one of the "original" ways of playing football. It fell out of favor after the T-formation was invented, only to be "re-discovered" by Landry and others. A few East Coast colleges continued to use it throughout the dead period (e.g., Princeton).

I am fascinated by this era, but I must say, the uniforms were so drab and looked exactly the same. It looks like a scrimmage between the offense and defense of a single team. The Cardinals are actually the oldest team in pro football. Yes, older tthan the Bears and Packers. The Cards existed before the NFL existed.

The Chicago Cardinals played at Comiskey Park on south side of Chicago. The Chicago Bears played at Wrigley Field on the north side. Two of the oldest franchises in the NFL. Yes!! We had 2 football teams in the Second City of Chicago. Until the Cardinals left to St. Louis after 1959 season.
