Une vraie magnifique voix de contralto aux inflexions émouvantes .

From someone who won a piano contest and then 2 years later, not the usual 10 for a a trainee, is apearing with Bruno Walter at Glyndbourne, a remarkable woman, and a treasure for people like us who appreciate music, submitted from an ill-educated, council house kid who realised there was more to life and luckily, found it.

Malgré les défauts de l'enregistrement , c'est la version d'Orfeo la plus profonde et la plus bouleversante de Kathleen Ferrier. Dommage qu'il manque le reste.

@wefond what is so pleasant is the warmth is the darkness, the sound of free throated, tongue relaxed singing with maximum pharyngeal lift.

Her singing is so completely without signs of technique. Emotion put to music. I appreciate her dark sound more and more with each passing decade.

@tetrazzini This version is very fine. Are you also acquainted with the version by Janet Baker?
I live not 15 minutes from Kaths birthplace and her memorial garden, I visit them often, how lucky am I?

Both Miss Ferrier and Dame Baker are so out of reach for the listener these days, it's difficult to describe in words how EXTAORDINARY this style of singing is. I am so happy that YOU TUBE is including some of these bi-gone day wonderful singers. Just who do we have today who could come close to this standard of beauty...Where are they? All seem to want to be screeching sopranos! SORRY!
