See and hear triplets explained and counted out over sheet music, so you can play them correctly when you see them. Stomp on the beats with your foot and clap the triplets.

  • so does that mean a quarter note triplet in 4/4 would be two beats?

  • @ups410 - yeah. it would last for two beats. an 8th note triplet lasts 1 beat long.

  • I thought triplets were in 6/8 Time.

  • @canaan1967 - triplets can be in 4/4 time. There are many kinds of triplets. 8th note triplets, quarter note triplets etc.

Triplets are just 3 notes where there would normally be two notes.

  • can't

  • uh ok. if you can explain it "correctly" please do.

  • @canaan1967 don't confuse triplets with compound time signatures...6/8 means there's 6 8th notes in a measure not triplets and it's also the same as 3/4 if you played 8 note triplets on every 1/4 note of 3/4 you would have 9 8th note triplets..also not to be confused with 9/8..a triplet is a triplet an 8th note is an 8th note..you could have 1/4 note triplets 8th note triplets 16th note triplets even 1/2 note triplets ..although very uncommon

  • Thanks, that really helped me!

  • hi, I'm having difficulty understanding the counting when you have 8th notes left hand and 8th notes Spaced Out triplets on right hand together in the same measure, could someone help me understand counting them please?

  • could you do a demonstration of swinging half note triplets or is that too far out there?

  • thank u !!!! i finally get how this thing works

you saved me one day before my test :D

  • Thank you.

  • So I get kind of confused when it comes to eight note triplets and just triplets in general. Wouldn't eighth note triplets in a measure be equivalent to sixteenth notes? Excuse me if its a dumb question but it's just something that I can never fully grasp even with something so apparently "easy"
