For a reliable tactic against the Horror check out my strategy video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=300Ux-kKk6s

From all the battles in MotA, including the final boss, I thought this was the toughest one, due to the insane amount of elemental damage by the Horror.
Once you're caught in his spirit aura or spirit cloud, you'll die within a second, unless you bring high resistance which only my warrior had.
Talli's magic resistance spell is useless against area damage. But Hawkes Elemental Aegis plus Rally are quite helpful.
Overall a great fight early in game. No special loot in the bodies though.

  • this is on nightmare? Bullshit. I'm on normal and the second he appears he spams all his one hit KO spells like that blue aura thing and that purple cloud of death and my teammates just walk right into it and are dead in seconds and it keeps turning my full party control which just makes it worse. This fight pisses me off.

  • @gamingeagle19 Even though I forgot to show the difficulty level you can easily tell that this is on nightmare.

At 2:20 Tallis is hit by Hawke's Scatter. She only survived due to the 75% rule that applies on friendly fire since patch 1.03.

The Assassin on 0:38 hits Varric for 149 damage, on hard it would be roughly 30% less.

If you hit the Sky Horror hard enough you'll be able to make him retreat before he can even cast his Entropic Cloud. Bring spirit resistance or Elemental Aegis plus Rally.

  • Great video. Just finished this fight on Nightmare and had the exact same reaction as you.

  • @BrommanderShepard Thanks for your comment :)

I've also noticed that Talli's CLOAK, which is supposed to protect her "against magical attacks" didn't do anything like that...

  • That looked like a tough fight. Did you get anything good from it, or do you end up with nothing but junk?

  • @EdgarBelmont The loot is what you get at the beginning of the fight when you open the chest. That green belt and dagger. The bodies only held crappy generic items for me ;(

@LordDesh666 Sorry, I skipped that puzzle beacuse I'm no good at those things, either. I rather use my fists than my brain ;P

  • fights like this and rock wriath are really bullshit. Very hard to win if you dont know ahead of time what you are facing. Like fighting this with no spirit resistance runes.......

  • this cheap fuck, I hate Sky Horror. And Talis dumb ass keeps running into his cheap blue spam... I

  • Just wasted over an hour of my life trying to beat this on lv 11 normal. His attacks kills any of my PCs in 2-3 hits and there is no time/posibility to move away from them since they're momentarily stunned after being hit once. Fuck this.

  • @BrommanderShepard yeah I already beat him thanks. Now fuck off.

  • @gamingeagle19 If your entire party is getting one-shot, you either aren't DPSing him quickly enough, not utilizing CC effectively (try this: tactic Anders to use Mind Blast on the nearest visible Mage), or you haven't equipped/enchanted your party properly. It's not bullshit, it's just the fight's mechanics. You can either learn them and win, or suck and complain. So far, you're sucking and complaining. Videos like this exist to help you learn and win.

  • @Keevan2010 I wasn't saying bullshit to you playing on nightmare. I was calling bullshit that on "nightmare" the dude just stands there while you rape him but on normal he's constantly spamming his bullshit powerful area spells and killing my entire party in mere seconds. Seems backwards to me.

  • @Keevan2010 Yeah. Everything happened very quickly in the first few seconds of the fight, for me, so I'm not even sure if Cover Up was working. I was just worried about getting him to retreat ASAP...
