Hello ! 8 years is considered to be an advanced age for degus.

Most degus do not live over their 9th year and very few live to 10 years.

What a great video! I didnt even know about Degus till I went to a Pet shop 2day. I sat there and watched and laugh for at least half hr LOL!!

Thank you ! That is how I came to know about degus myself.

I saw them in a pet shop and was very intrigued. After looking them up and learning about them, I finally decided to get a pair. It was one of the best decisions I had ever taken. Eventually I got another pair and last year, adopted a third pair. They are such fun creatures...very affectionate too.

Hey I've been doing research on chinchillas & found degus & they are just sooo cute, if I got a chinchilla stater kit-like from petsmart with the cage, bedding etc.- would it b ok for degus?

I know they are smaller than chinchillas so do they need as big of a cage?

Last time I went to the pet store for crickets i stopped to look at the rodents and ended up playing with the degus a bit. They didn't really wanna be touched but they were extremely curious about my hand, and one let me scoop it up and hold it for a second before I set em back down. Then one promptly chomped my finger. I dunno why but he got me pretty good, it bled pretty good. I'm used to rodent bites though so it didn't phase me. Still enjoyed playing with em and trying to pet them.

@RKRafRaf sounds like a degu requires just as much if not more attention than a rat, so if you're concerned you didn't give your last pet enough attention you might want to consider getting something that doesn't require as much. Mice are actually really cute pets. They're really friendly and if you're gentle with them they never bite. Best to get two girls though. They'll be lonely otherwise. And boys fight and tend to be smellier.
