This is the forest episode from the edutainment divorce game Earthquake in Zipland. This episode symbolizes the loyalty conflicts children of divorce usually face. The forest scene consists of 4 dialogues where the mother tries to convince the main character, Moose, to go LEFT while the father tries to convince him to go RIGHT. After each dialogue, the child playing needs to choose which direction he wants to go next. Throughout the game he can also turn to the Quest Journal in order to express his feelings or frustrations, as well as get words of encouragement and tips on how to proceed with the game.

  • Okay, don't you think that would just make the kid more frustrated and upset?

  • Though the subject is painful, the witty dialogue dissolves much of the stress experienced by the child and enables him to approach these issues. For example, two siblings playing the game together were conflicted whether to go left or right. When asked where they should go, the first answered that mom promised to bake a cake if he went left and couldn't disappoint her. His sister, however, thought the mother was manipulating the hero and therefore made a point of going right.

  • The children's mother sat in on the session. As a result, a discussion quickly evolved from the characters in the game to where they really felt home was - with their mom or dad, and their expectations about their parents getting back together. It was a chance to deal with their hurt in a way that wasn't possible prior to the game because of the difficulty in addressing the issue.

  • now i'm confused should i turn right on the conservitives doings or should i turn left for the liberals doings i'm so confused.

  • if you cannot get help from the professionals you should probably help yourself if you cannot do that all hope is lost. Just don't think about it if it hurts.

  • This would confuse the poor kid even more. Fucking A.

  • TOO Little TOO Late for me...My Parents Divorced when I was 3 years old and still that consistant Verbal abuse towards each other through me is going TOO FAR... I am 24 Years Old Now what they treat me as a little kid.

  • ...gay

  • Since when is trying to help children - or anyone else for that matter - considered a bad thing? You make it sound like all doctors or psychologists market off people in need! Besides, many forms of play therapy already exist... It seems logical that the next step would be in the form of computer games...

  • honestly this is the worst idea for a game since "Columbine Shooter RPG" as a divorce child i can tell you that no game will make you feel better, plus the fact that someone would try to market off a childs emotions is disgusting. way to bring society to an all time low.
