I've been playing the fiddle for just over 2 years now, so I thought it was high time I did another video. In fact, this is the first video with my lovely fiddle that I bought in November!

The tunes are all well known session reels. The first is "The Green Mountain" in D, the second is "The Ships are Sailing" in E dorian, and the third is "The Boys of Malin" in A.

The Green Mountain:

The Ships are Sailing:

The Boys of Malin:

The guitar is my cheap Wesley Ovation copy. I used this as my other is tuned to open G at the moment at I couldn't be bothered to change it. This one's tuned to drop-D.

The bodhran is also a cheap and cheerful thing from Hobgoblin. I followed these instructions to make it sound better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euUSfb8LfMw

  • what are the notes for green mountain

  • @ZombieSlayer9000 Have a look on the website thesession (dot) org where you can get the notes for over 10,000 Celtic tunes.

  • do ye play the guitar in DADGAD? Drop D? EADGBE?

    An-mhaith!

  • @Brengor69 Hiya! In this video it's drop-D. In another video I play DADGAD accompaniment, although I now pretty much exclusively play open-G which I find pretty good for accompaniment too. Cheers! Dave

  • Hey Dave, this is great!

I really like your bouncy guitar playing :P

I've been wanting to learn the last reel in a while.

  • @josecalcru1 Thanks :) The bouncy guitar playing is mainly inspired by a guy at our local session. The chords are a bit uninspired though. Need some help from Norman :)

  • haha good stuff! 5 stars!

  • I love this. I've listened to it a few times. Creative. Musical. Nice blend of technology and good old human energy.
