Archive film from the Cornish Voices series shot by Stuart Armfield and edited by Oliver Harborth. The early days of shark fishing in Cornwall when sharks were killed and not returned to the sea.
I do remember this. It was a place for my early diving holidays. There were also spear fishing contests organised by diving clubs. The water was so clear, even in the river. They were wonderful times but I'm glad the shark slaughter has now finished and diving clubs are more wreck orientated!
so looe was infamous for shark fishing, isnt it amazing how being local all my life i have never heard about this............just goes too show in order too preserve cornwall how many people wont speak about it.
