suck it up! both were great players of their generation. but of the two, Pete was a better player! you dont need reasons or explanations to that. see for yourself!

@acantu77 Perfectly said mate. I wish I could add to it but I just can't, you said it all so well in one quick post, congrats :).

@trevorwinton The difference between Rafa and Pete is immense in terms of accomplishments. Rafa, along with Agassi, are the only 2 players to complete the career golden slam. Rafa has 18 masters 1000 titles too. Rafa may very well become the best player of all time (not for me to decide), but Pete and Andre have nothing to do with Rafa. Also, the 90's was more challenging than Fed's era (100%) and probably still more challenging than Rafa's era.

@trevorwinton I love Rafa and Andre, Andre is my tennis idol but Rafa is a close second. Comparing era's is hard, but I don't think there's much separation between Andre and Pete. Just go look up the stats. There is more to the discussion than just 4 tournaments a year. You have to consider the complete picture. The career grand slam was something Pete never even put a scare in, the Olympic gold as well for Andre, as well as the Tennis masters 1000 titles he compiled.

@mousavsm a great return is also reaction. i believe pete was a superior athlete and also a smarter tennis player... seriously lets just face facts, at the rate that rafa is going he will be the greatest of all time easily. you can say this and that about the competition being different and what not, the competition doesnt look as strong purely because of what he does to them... in my opinion sampras is the greatest tennis player of all time so far, i think that rafa will steal that title soon.

@trevorwinton Wow, did you actually say that? Pete had a better serve and volley. He also had a great running forehand. But to say he was a better pure ball striker? I don't think I've ever heard that from ANYONE till now. In my opinion there is no comparison at all, Andre was clearly the better ball striker. Hell, he was possibly the best ball striker in history. When you have the best return, that is all ball striking....
-
@trevorwinton Not really, there is no set definition that defines the greatest player. It's subjective because there are no strict guidelines for one to follow when making the decision. It's really a matter of opinion, and nothing more.
-
@dmonopoly It's because of the speed he generates. Plus, you have no clue if that incoming shot was of serious pace. If it was a fast shot already, then redirecting it may be the best option. He had a serious forehand, and a superb backhand. Really, the guy had it all when it came to the baseline game. Best pure baseliner that the game has ever seen.

The best returner of all time....Man I miss this guy. Some say that tennis may suffer when Nadal and/or Federer retires. What I say is that the day this man retired, a piece of my tennis heart got taken. I absolutely loved watching Agassi play. In my opinion, the most talented player of all time! If only we could turn back the hands of time..

Yes, but David could have done so much more.... Andre because he had to face Pete Sampras in era of Serve and Volleyers, which makes it even tougher....
First off, let me say that Pete is one of the greatest of all time, without a doubt! Fourteen Slams says it all! But, to say that Pete will "forever be remembered as the greater," I have to disagree there. What about Pete's average backhand? Pete NEVER won the French Open; never got to the finals! Did Pete win an Olympic gold medal, no! Andre = career Grand Slam on ALL surfaces, 8 slams total. Best returner of all time. Who changed the face of tennis more? He's from Vegas, baby!
